About us

In December 2015 Number 57 changed.....we are still hosting Craft workshops and plan ocassional exhibitions but we have divided the space and share it with 'Flavours of Spain' of Brockley Market fame. These lovely people have created L'Oculto,  a small Spanish tapas and wine bar. Number 57 has a studio and workshop space to the rear of the shop, essentially a 'fusion space' has been made.
In our original blog we described 57 as "This is a changing space with an emphasis on innovation, enjoyment and all things local so there's always  something new to look out for."  Time has proven that to be about right, but I think we will stay as we are for a while now - sit back and look forward to good food, good wine, making and summertime....

About Mary McGeown Roots and all

The owner of Number 57, Lewisham born and bred, I have spent most of my working life employed in the public sector on the other side of London. Known by some as going over to the other side....
About ten years ago I decided to jump ship and go freelance, successfully specializing in Organizational  Change Management. Professionally I always looked for opportunities to innovate and promote creativity, receiving a National Business Excellence Award for Innovation and Learning during this period. I loved this work but a cycle accident and broken leg a few years ago prompted me to start thinking about my own change project. I have always loved colour and making and was lucky enough to grow up in a family of makers
with a mother who was a talented seamstress with a love of all kinds of making. I find that a lot of that passion and endeavour has rubbed off on me, and I have come to value innovation and creativity in all its forms.
I decided it was time to pursue a long held ambition to set up a creative space - a place that offered people the chance to show, share, learn, enjoy, sell, buy, innovate and celebrate all things creative.
Number 57 was purchased on 15th March 2013, followed by an exhausting and exciting period of repair and renovation. However we made it, and here we are,
